BUDDY UP FOR BOXING WITH JAWS

Join forces with a friend for instant energy and endless motivation. Get inspired to throw some punches with Julie ‘Jaws’ Nelson from NYC, as she hits the boxing gym with Meagan Kong.

WHY BUDDY UP?

Having someone to push you is really important. Especially if they’re more advanced, you can learn new ways of moving and feed off each other’s energy. Even if you’re tired you’ll have a great workout. There is definitely power in group and buddy workouts.

HOW DO YOU FEEL AFTER WORKING OUT WITH SOMEONE?

It feels good to have that immediate gratification, like ‘yeah we just did that’. It’s like you’ve been through a little battle together. You feel more connected and closer. That’s why I love working out with people because I get to know them better.

WHY CHOOSE BOXING FOR BUDDY WORKOUTS?

Boxing makes a perfect buddy workout because it’s very empowering, especially for women. It combines physical and emotional fitness with a craft - you are actually learning something.

ARE THERE ANY PARTNER EXERCISES YOU LOVE TO DO?

Sometimes me and my fitness buddy turn the music up really loud and jump rope for 10-20 minutes straight. It’s a really fun warm up, because you can dance and try out all kinds of moves.

WHAT'S YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR WOMEN WORKING OUT TOGETHER?

Competitiveness is often at the forefront in fitness and I wish we could put it aside a bit more. The comparison trap is dangerous. Everyone’s 100% is different and there’s nothing wrong with that. Let’s motivate and support each other - remember fitness takes time and the process is just as fun as the product.
